Thrive Messenger for iPhone (TestFlight beta)
A native Thrive app for iPhone (iOS 17 or later) is available to test through Apple’s TestFlight. It has Chats, Rooms and Settings tabs and is built for VoiceOver: new messages in the chat you have open are read out, and Settings is a list of categories (General, Notifications, Privacy, Profile and Authentication). For now it connects to the TappedIn server only.
- On your iPhone, open the TestFlight invitation: Join the Thrive Messenger beta on TestFlight.
- If you don’t have Apple’s TestFlight app yet, the page offers it in the App Store. Install it, then open the invitation link again.
- Choose Accept, then Install. Open Thrive Messenger and sign in with your TappedIn Thrive account, or create one.
TestFlight builds are updated in batches, so you won’t get a new build for every small fix. To report a problem, use TestFlight’s Send Beta Feedback, or message the TappedIn team in Thrive.
What is new (Alpha 15.18 to 15.25)
- 15.25: Create or join a Thrive account in the app, including secure invitations and administrator user tools. Message sounds play reliably; voice recordings preserve stereo where the microphone supports it. Voice messages stop at Preview, with Play/Pause, Send, Re-record and Cancel; nothing sends until Send. See the device you are using and its real last-active time. When someone adds you, choose Add Back, Open Chat or Block. Set your status beside Chats.
- 15.24 (Windows): Thrive reopens reliably after installing an update, and pressing Escape to minimise to the tray no longer crashes it. Manage Signed-In Devices shows your real signed-in devices and locations, with a Sign Out All Other Devices button. Password reset codes now expire, and you get an email whenever your password changes. Only the device you are actively using plays a sound for new messages; the others stay quiet and just sync.
- 15.23 (Windows): Thrive remembers an unfinished message as a draft as you type, so you never lose your text, including when an update installs. The contact and room lists show “Draft: …” with the first few words. Updates never interrupt your typing: no more dialogs or progress bars over your message box while you’re mid-sentence, and every draft is saved before Thrive ever installs and restarts. If you still have an unsent draft at that moment, Thrive asks “Install now or later?” instead of restarting on you, and reopens the chat you were in afterward. A short What’s New summary appears after an update, and any time from Help, What’s New.
- 15.22: the links list closes after you open, copy or remove a link, and you’re back on the message it came from.
- 15.21: received files go into a folder for each person (and each room) under Documents, ThriveMessenger, files, with an Open Their Files Folder button in each conversation’s File Transfers tab.
- 15.20: if you haven’t touched the keyboard for a minute, messages in the open chat are read in full; calmer updates that retry quietly when the network is down and resume interrupted downloads; optional update and error reports with no personal content. iPhone: Settings categories, and new messages in the open chat are read by VoiceOver.
- 15.19: you hear every new message in the chat you’re in (sound and read aloud), messages stay unread while you’re away, reliable alerts, and a new message no longer pulls you off the one you’re reading. Thrive checks for updates every six hours.
- 15.18: Help, Check for Updates is back, with Alt+P from anywhere in the main window (and in the Thrive Messenger menu on a Mac).
Earlier: links in chats with a links list, Go to (Control+G), chat rooms from the Groups tab, reactions (Alt+R), automatic reconnect, and the Mac app running natively on Apple silicon and Intel.
Press F1 in any Thrive window for help.
